Title:
Management of Complex Injuries of the Upper Limb.
Background:
Dr. Chuang is Professor of Surgery, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipai, Twaiwan. He is the President of the Taiwan Plastic Surgery Association.
Dr. Chuang obtained his medical degree at Kaohsiung Medical College, Kaohsiung, Taiwan and Internship at the Veterans General Hospital,Taipei. He performed his General Surgery Residency at the Veterans General Hospital, Taipei. After general surgery training he did his Plastic Surgery Residency at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taipei under Dr. M. Samuel Noordhoff.

He did a microsurgery fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, Virginia and was a visiting fellow with Dr. A. Narakas in Lausanne, Switzerland. Later he was visiting fellow with Dr. H. Millesi in Vienna, Austria.

Professor David Chwei-Chin Chuang is the first plastic surgeon in Taiwan that concentrated on peripheral nerve science and incorporated injuries, reconstruction and research. He is recognized as a world expert in the field of peripheral nerve injury and reconstruction.

He started his microsurgical career in 1984 and became an academic professor in 2000. His career was inspired largely by mentors namely: Dr. Samuel Noordhoff who motivated him to become a plastic surgeon, Dr. Fu-Chan Wei who influenced him to become a micro-surgeon; Dr. Julia K Terzis (USA), Dr. H. Millesi (Austria), Dr. A. Narakas (Switzerland), and Dr. Toru Kondo (Japan) - all four of whom had primed him to become a peripheral nerve microsurgeon.
