Dr. Cardenas performed hsi Residency in Plastic Surgery at the Hospital General Dr. Manuel Gea Gonzalez, Mexico City. He then did a Microsurgery Clinical Fellowship, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital under Professor Fu-Chan Wei and Professor David Chuang.
He is the Director of the Facial Palsy and Peripheral Nerve Clinic in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Hospital General Dr. Manuel Gea Gonzalez. He is also Professor of Facial Palsy and Peripheral Nerve Fellowship Program at the Universidad Nacional de Mexico (UNAM).
He recieved the Gea-Puis Research Award from Postgraduate University Program at UNAM.
He was also the President, Asociación Latinoamericana de Microcirugía (ALAM).
